Time For 2012

Assalamualaikum wbt

The way my neighbourhood celebrated the new year (0001 Hrs) was with a long persevered car honk, followed by yells and screams and then after some time, (obviously) fireworks for like 20 minutes. At first I honestly thought it was a crime happening -.- so I opened my room window to check out what was happening but of course, silly me, it was Year 2012 coming!

So I text messaged my friends a Happy New Year, had some conversations and then I started to pray for that night (I mean, Isya' prayers, not new year 2012 prayers) , read a bit of the Al-Quran, then I called some of my friends, then I buffered my nails until 2am (couldn't sleep, had to resort to something boring) *Lol. What else could possibly be done on a new year? hahaha.

Welcoming 2011, I was at school at 11 pm after a debate training and went home and arrived nearly before 12am so just went to sleep and woke up in a new year.

There's nothing so significant about celebrating a new year which calls for fireworks anyway. Hope no one continued celebrating with an orgy or something else like that, urgh.

.

2011 was a year when I really didn't realize time passing. I moved houses, my sister went to college to study Law, I got two Cs in a year (personal record ha ha), I senior-ised (no such word, sorry) school, Got (but don't know if I properly discharged) responsibilities, had countless debates, won two tournaments - went to Seoul (was completely not in plan, I was initially supposed to take debate leave since April, but didn't), missed out on a few family trips, oh and took SPM gracefully XD

It was the year I actually understood what kind of tarbiyyah (common word for "Islamic teaching") I lacked & needed. Started to accept and welcome it with less resisting (ha ha) and questioning, I understood why I go to usrah/halaqah whatever its called, understood why I carry (bawa?) facilitate (?) usrahs/halaqahs (will talk about my definition of this later iA). I became more liberal in some stances as I started to attain more understanding.

My 2012 goal is (kinda) simple: I hope to become a better devoted/practicing/understanding Muslim. I have 6 months of (academic) study leave - I don't know any other big opportunity I will get in life to build myself spiritually. Happy New Year :)
